Beacons of LIGHT
You won't be around our community very long without hearing us introduce one another as "Beacons." These people are shining their light using their gifts and aligning who God has made them to be with their work or calling. We have have had the privilege of coming alongside many people as God has grown their vision into reality.
We invite you to scroll through our “Beacons of Light” and be amazed at God's handiwork in the lives of these passionate individuals and teams out in the world making a difference right where they are. Be encouraged to use YOUR gifts to shine God’s light and maybe even find a new friend or some useful resources along the way! We are just getting started on the list and are adding new Beacons regularly, so check back often to meet them all.
Meet the Beacons!
“God has allowed me to use my graphic design skills to bring visions to fruition for others. I love sitting with clients/friends to hear how they want to bring change to their community through a business or venture. I then pray and work on my handy dandy mac to create tangible artwork for them to get started with their business, ministry, or hobby. Also, it brings me joy to use the gift of empathy and connection with people in my community and networks. I love to hear people's struggles and speak words of life and encouragement into their situations. I truly love finding the best in people and focusing on that aspect. God is so good and I love being a part of the Beacon community.” Learn more about Dawn at Second Stories Book and Storytellers Live
“Last year I discovered the enneagram and was pleasantly surprised to discover how accurate the test was for my personality, but especially the areas I feel gifted! Helping others brings me great joy and having the right people around me while I’m able to do that, is the most important part. The ‘wing’ friends help you stay balanced and in my redeemed in Christ new self, verse exhaustion and unhealthy giving. I love how God has shown me I can completely rely on Him, pray specifically to Him, and that’s He’s in every step of everyday. God gives me an opportunity to speak life, health and hope into people’s lives that visit Sprout & Pour or collegues in my community. I’m encouraged and motivated to see groups like Beacon that bring like-minded creatives together and give a platform to share.” Visit Sprout & Pour
“Creating my custom art brings me closer to my Creator! When I start a new painting from a blank canvas and it transforms into beautiful art that truly comes from within, I’m reminded of the natural gifts and talents He has given to me. I love being able to give back to local charities and organizations in my community through art, and have cherished all of the people I have got to meet over the years!” See LeAnn’s art.
“Honestly I’m constantly learning what my gifts are and how best to use them. God is constantly teaching and showing me how he wants me to further his kingdom. It’s not perfect but I lean on him for help and guidance daily.
I love making candles and seeing the joy they bring people. People ask me all the time how I got into making candles. I start with well I wanted to do something but I wasn’t good at anything. I’ve always loved candles but I can’t make them. I’m not crafty. Nobody would want anything I made anyway. Oh how the enemy lies.
I love creating and using recycled materials to make for some unique candle holders . God can use the used up not pretty things of this world to shine his light. I love interacting with people and hearing their stories preferably with a candle burning a lovely fragrance in the background:) I’ve gone from I can’t to I can. Anything is possible with the Lord and a passion. Seeing my candles in stores is unreal.” Visit Wax & Tin
I am the founder and director of Kelly Williams Ministries. GOD has allowed us to work with women coming out of incarceration, addiction, and sex trafficking. We visit jails, prisons, rehab facilities, and the streets sharing the love of CHRIST through written and spoken testimony, mentoring and discipling, and job skills training and placement. We teach the girls how to take their life story back and use it for GOD’s glory. Visit Kelly Williams Ministries
Since re-directing my path as a professional photographer just before I turned 60 - I find delight in trusting God 100% with where He wants me to be - what and who to shoot - and that He will provide the skill to do so. Many projects have come out of the blue with a person asking me if I could shoot something specific, and I say SURE - as if I've done so many times. Then I trust that the Lord will direct my steps to learn what I need to do! It's quite an adventure. I've loved photography as an expensive hobby for decades, and never dreamed the Lord would have me on this journey at this age, but I get to meet SO many people. And I sprinkle seeds of His love, grace and mercy all over every situation and person that I can. God redeemed my life from a crazy train wreck 20 years ago, and what I am today is a result of His unrelenting pursuit of me to restore my life. My beacon is shining the light of restoration and redemption - with total dependency upon the love and faithfulness of Jesus to give me purpose. Learn more about Leslie.
This little light of mine shines brighter because as I was aimlessly wandering, God dropped me in the middle of a beautiful town called Birmingham. It’s name meaning is, “homestead of the place (or people)”.
He gave me Beacon People and they welcomed me from the very beginning as “theirs”. They sat with me. They read and studied with me. They saw me and let me see them. They still do.
I’ve been searching for home for quite some time and what I’ve discovered is that it, the light, is within me and where my feet tread, that’s where I belong. Because of Jesus. I‘m truly home with God, always.
This is not a cliche saying for me, I truly live it out in my travels. I’m a writer and photographer, working on a project to share the extraordinary things God shows me daily.
Something is on the horizon and I’m excited to shine brighter!
I’ve learned that I have to let the beam on me for it to reflect out! Follow Michele on her travels.
I believe in the process of repurposing because I think it is a representation for what God does in us. Often when we feel broken, worn out, or discarded, God will use our story as a beautiful testimony to the world. As a bookbinder and creative, I use repurposed denim to make personal journals for anyone ready to write their own story through my small business Elise Ray Books.
I also believe in simplicity and intentional living and that our possessions should compliment the purpose for which we have been called to fulfill. Over the last year, I have grown passionate to help women work through the declutter process in their homes with respect to a biblical perspective. I am in the process of developing a small group curriculum for this very reason.
When I became am empty nester, I felt like I lost my meaning. Thankfully, I was invited to take part in pathFinder here in Chattanooga, and that allowed me to more fully appreciate the way God made me and the story He gave me. I discovered that my gifts and strengths include aesthetics. I have been really enjoying creating Miss Ann’s Happies, which evolved out of simply trying something new, giving myself permission to take an art class, and then setting aside time and paper to see what happened next. It turned into a small, but joyful little business. I have most loved the way my simple cards bring me into the company of others, because at the root, I am a people person, not an artist. I just want to bring joy, and inspire the handwritten note. I have had a fun first year, and look forward to stretching myself in this next year, with the added benefit of taking the new video version of pathFinder! My inspiration always comes through relationships, and God has been very kind to me in that way. My ETSY site is called Miss Ann’s Happies.
I am taking a break from making dresses to have the opportunity to work with Created For A Purpose year round! I have loved working with the Created For A Purpose team to spread Jesus's love through this girls creative camp. Created For A Purpose have enabled me to use my creativity, people skills, and dancing skills--(ha ha) to serve the Lord in new and different ways every week of the year depending on what needs to be done that month!
On the verge of becoming an empty nester, I wondered what would “now until meeting Jesus” look like. In His perfect time, a pathfinder study landed in my lap. My love of all things Broadway, movies and pop culture seemed so trivial. How could that help people??? A couple of months went by as I dabbled in art and writing and dancing. Then the surprise of my life happened- I was asked to be the movie and pop culture critic for a local paper. I got to see and review movies and TV and streaming shows. This was the dream. That led to me being asked to be a featured writer and write about anything I chose. Without the help of pathfinder I would have hidden my gift in shame. Now I’m the proud write of “Reel Talk with Merrile” and many other articles. The connections with people who approach me to discuss my articles is priceless and I’ve learned God created me just for this.....not a trivial gift at all.
I'm an accidental author. God gave me a story I didn't want, and then used that story to reach more people than I could have ever imagined with the truths of the gospel. I'm grateful for the privilege of writing two books - Bringing Lucy Home and 30 Days of Hope for Adoptive Parents - and then co-authoring Unhitching From the Crazy Train: Finding Rest in a World You Can't Control, with Julie Sparkman. I have blogged at jenniferphillipsblog.com for the last five years, and am now in a place of listening, asking the Lord how He wants to use my gifts in this season of my life. No matter where He takes me, I'll always be passionate about helping others rest in the gospel in the midst of the mess. And also, karaoke.
I love creating in general, but really found my home in floral design and the occasional jewelry crafting. I love meeting with people during the highs and sometimes even the lows of life to create floral arrangements that will help them remember those days. I pray for my clients and truly consider them as part of my family. It is a great opportunity to share the love of Christ as you interact with people on what can be stressful days. In those times, I have the opportunity to be light and show how the peace of God passes all understanding. Learn more about Kristi.
I am a passionate Bible teacher and mentor who also happens to love business, language, music, travel and the people I encounter with all these. My vision as a writer began during a college writing assignment, and has given me a voice for connecting with and impacting others. I enjoy investing in others to help them overcome baggage from their past using the light of the Word of God. As they find healing and growth in the truth, they learn to shine their own lights in the lives of others. I also love encouraging people to grow in their businesses and careers as a platform for the Gospel. Explore Robin’s writing.
