Meet the Beacon: Kristin Walker

This week, get to know Beacon People’s Projects and Communications Lead, Kristin Walker.

Kristin has a love for reading, art and all things fashion and home design. She is also a stay-at-home mom and artist. Kristin is married to Brian, and they have three children: Ethan, Audrey and Owen. Kristin met Anna at just 18 years old when she was her hairstylist. They remained close throughout the years and Kristin began volunteering for Beacon People in 2017. Kristin is a quiet yet strong spirit and leads through passion rather than words. See if you have some things in common and learn about her more in the article below! To connect with Kristin, email her at kristinwalker@beaconpeople.org or check out her art on Instagram @kristinwalker_creative.

Q: What does being a Beacon mean to you?

A: It means using my gifts to shine the light of Jesus. I used to look at people who were out in the world just shining everywhere they went and loving on everyone they met, and I thought that was being a beacon. That's just not me. Learning I could shine from behind the scenes was huge for me. God didn't make me to engage in a lot of “people-ing” but He gave me other gifts that are valuable and worthy; it took me a while to understand that.

Q: What is something people don’t know about you?

A: I really enjoy living a small and quiet life. I spend 90% of my time at home and my idea of a good time is curling up with a blanket, a cat, and a good book. I’m not at all a go-getter but I am passionate about a lot of things like family, art, books, and mental health. I read 50+ books a year.

Q: What is a phrase that defines you?

A: “A sensitive soul with a warrior spirit.” I'm deep, sensitive, and quiet but I'm also very resilient and a fighter. I have strong convictions. I may be introverted but I have a rather large personality when you get to know me.

Q: What’s something you’re really looking forward to?

A: Whatever the future holds. I look forward to mundane moments that bring immense joy. I think that's where the magic is. Watching my kids experience life, being in nature, or finding something really cool at a thrift store or antique shop. Simple, but beautiful moments inspire me and those are the things I look forward too.
