Essential People - caring for those who are caring for others
Recently our coffee shop, Innova Coffee, had an amazing opportunity to deliver donated boxes of fresh, hot coffee to a Covid-19 Clinic in our area. We were taken back by the response of the workers who received fresh coffee on the morning of another grueling day. One of the nurses happened to be a regular at our shop and she texted me that evening telling me how encouraging it was to receive the coffee.
At that moment I realized that we have such an opportunity
to care for those who are caring for others.
Those who are caring for others are the Essential Workers. Essential means, “absolutely necessary; extremely important.” Doctors, nurses, custodial workers, lab techs, pharmacists and grocers are all Essential Workers. The list could go on and on of those being exposed and putting their lives on the line every day to help others heal and be protected.
2 Weeks or 2 months more? Regardless, they need us now!
The organization of Beacon People has a mission of connecting and that is what we have opportunity to do during the season of Covid-19. Whether we are in this for two more weeks or two more months, the time to use your gifts may not have ever been more important that now! But our giving isn’t finished because their work isn’t over just yet.
We asked a frontline worker, “What do the Essential Workers need most?”
When we asked nurse Lisa from a Covid Clinic this question she replied, “It’s the gift of hope and encouragement.” She asked us to pray for the mental and emotional health of the workers as they are emotionally wearing thin 4 weeks into the most difficult time they have ever faced.
Many of you have already contributed to this initiative and it’s been thrilling to have had the opportunity to take in flowers, sweet treats, food and of course coffee to the Essential Workers. Because of the need Lisa expressed we have attached notes of encouragement to everything we do to bless them. They need us to fill them up with emotional support, words of affirmation, truth and strength.
We are connecting people who care with those who are caring for others.
If you are interested in using your gifts and passions to bring hope and encouragement to the Essential Workers we would like to help make this happen. We have created connections with respected people around our city of Birmingham and built relationships to link us in to the healthcare industry at hospitals and clinics, as well as other industries that are face to face with this pandemic.
Get creative and connect with us!
What gifts of time, talents and service do you have that could be used to encourage an Essential Worker? It’s time to climb out of our very small minded world and think big things for God’s purposes during this time. Let us know what you could contribute and we will loop you into this initiative. It’s as easy as that! Email us at info@beaconpeople.org to get the conversation going.
But the most important thing is this.
Every Monday night from 7-7:30 pm we are hosting a zoom prayer meeting for our Essential Workers. We’d love for you to join us. Email us at info@beaconpeople.org for an invitation to this time which holds promise to bring support to those who need it most from God who loves them the most.
Do you know an Essential Worker that could use prayer & encouragement?
We want to add them to our list for prayer.
