How to Find the Most Powerful Purpose in Your Life

Did you know the most powerful purpose in your life lives inside you? Still searching? Interestingly enough, you won’t have to look far to find the most powerful purpose in your life. God’s not trying to hide it from you. Truly, there’s no secret method. You don’t have to earn it. For sure, you can not buy it. Why? Because it’s already living inside of you.

If you’re a believer in Jesus Christ, it’s just waiting for you to find it. Contrary to popular belief, no one prays purpose on you or over you. More likely, prayer stirs up faith to believe it’s there in the first place. Because, truth is  God created you with purpose in mind. Before the foundation of the world, God placed it inside of you. And, through walking with Holy Spirit, our purpose comes alive. All of a sudden, we shine bright like never before.

Unfortunately, most feel like their purpose is a complete unknown. Many have endeavored to find their greatest purpose through some exotic expedition or specific adventure to discover it. Most look far and wide outside themselves to find something which ignites the flames of passion within.

Honestly, we can look high and low and never actually find what we are looking for in the world. Ultimately, it’s not out there. Rather, the purpose we seek, lies within. The difficulty encountered in realizing our potential and purpose leads us to believe we don’t know where to find it. Usually, we struggle with grasping the fact we don’t need to go looking for it. Because truthfully, our purpose has already found us.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is just be.

Often, we try pursuing our dreams and end up wearing ourselves out in the process. We strive in endless activity. However, there is power in intentionally being with God and letting Him work in us. In truth, sometimes the easiest path to finding our most powerful purpose is to simply be. As a result, we are free to rest. Rest in knowing at the right time, in the right season, and with the right people, God will unearth our purpose for us.

The simplest way to find our most powerful purpose is to keep company with Christ.

Amazingly, the very act of abiding in Christ deepens our sense of identity and purpose. As we become more deeply rooted in Christ through abiding with Him, purpose is revealed. Somehow, what starts as heart’s desire grows into a passion. Passion refines our placement. And, our placement provides the realization of our purpose. God brings us to the very things we’re meant to be doing. Learning to be with God instead of trying to figure out what we can do for God ultimately leads us to our most purpose-filled life.

The equation of BE>DO = PURPOSE

More being, less doing results in our purpose becoming known to us. What in the world am I talking about? It’s a simple equation really. To find our most powerful purpose, we begin to simply be with God. As our intimacy with God grows, our hearts align with His and a passion to be more like Him grows. Our passion opens the doors of opportunity to the very things God’s designed us to be. Our passion leads us to our purpose. Before long, we find ourselves sitting smack dab in the middle of our purpose.

Our rest allows God’s will to be recognized and revealed in our lives. The people needed to fulfill God’s plans are drawn to the Jesus seen within us. Almost unknowingly, they partner with our purpose. And, seemingly, in a split moment, we arrive. Though in reality, it’s been years; the culmination of abiding in Christ drops it right in front of us. With each step of obedience, passion and purpose unite.

How can we know our heart’s desire, our passions are from God?

As a young college student, I struggled to know my purpose. Even more so, as a young mom, I found myself questioning my purpose. Yet again, when my kids finally left the nest, this empty-nester started asking the same questions. But, this time was different. Over the years, I better understood where purpose originates. Remarkably, I learned to look to God instead of seeking it out in the world.

Believing the promises of Jeremiah 29, I trusted God’s plan for my life. And, you can too. When in doubt, get in God’s word. There, you’ll find the answer you long for. Jeremiah 29 confirms God thinks about us. As always, God’s thoughts and intentions are for our good. He says, “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” (Jeremiah 29:11 MSG)

You are fearfully, wonderfully made by God.

I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex!

Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking.

It simply amazes me to think about it!

How thoroughly you know me, Lord!

You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place,

carefully, skillfully shaping me from nothing to something.

You saw who you created me to be before I became me!

Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book.

Every single moment you are thinking of me!

Psalm 139:14-17 TPT

Purposeful Life Challenge

Understandably, people continuously question their purpose. For whatever reason, we are prone to wonder about such things. It’s how we roll. Yet, I challenge you to do these 3 things when you start to question:

  1. Daily, read Psalm 139 for a straight month.

  2. In the evening, write in a journal: note 5 key areas: the people, places, passions, possibilities, and predicaments of your day.

  3. At the end of the month, see how your questioning has been quietened. Remember: Be>Do=Purpose

Seemingly counterintuitive, rest in the quest to find the most powerful purpose in our lives absolutely does not make sense. However, a wise friend once told me to “surrender what doesn’t make sense for what is divinely appointed.”  On the whole, our surrender quickens our resolve to align ourselves with God’s ways instead of trying to make something happen on our own. Ultimately, the easiest way to secure our purpose is to be with God. Simply put, rest means to stop striving and be free. In the process, we become all God created us to be.
